lymphoedema

Lymphoedema is the accumulation of excessive fluid resulting in swelling of one or more regions of the body, usually affecting the limbs. It is a common side effect following cancer treatment when part of the lymphatic system (lymph nodes) need to be removed. It may occur within months of the damage, or can take years to appear.

Lymphoedema cannot be cured, but it can be managed. Early intervention is recommended.

Lymphoedema is another specialised area where physiotherapists must complete post graduate training.
